About Us

Seattle Speaks German offers online German classes for busy adults who want to have real conversations in German—not just dabble on an app. We provide structured lessons aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) in a supportive, engaging community that fosters active learning.

On the left side of the screen, there are three German speech bubbles: "Wie geht’s?" (How are you?), "Mir geht’s gut!" (I’m doing well!), and "So lala!" (So-so!). The participants appear in individual video frames, with varied expressions and backgrounds.

What You’ll Do

✔️ Teach small group courses (8 weeks, 12 hours of instruction) and help students achieve their language goals.
✔️ Start by teaching Beginner Level 1 in Fall 2025, with opportunities to teach higher levels over time.
✔️ Focus on maximizing speaking time in class—students are educated but often short on study time outside of lessons.
✔️ Use our structured course materials while adding your own expertise and creativity to make classes interactive.
✔️ Optionally participate in community-building activities, like monthly meetups or book club events (attendance encouraged but not required).

What We Provide

Minimal Prep Time – We offer a structured curriculum so you can focus on teaching, not lesson planning.
Collaborative Teaching Community – Connect with other German instructors and share ideas.
Built-in Student Base – No need to market yourself—we bring students to you.
Instructor Handbook & Support – We provide guidance and course setup to help you get started.

Who We’re Looking For

  • German Proficiency: Native or near-native fluency.
  • Teaching Experience: Experience teaching German as a foreign language (DaF), preferably online.
  • Tech Skills: Comfortable using Zoom and Learning Management Systems (LMS) like Moodle.
  • Engaging Teaching Style: Able to create interactive, student-centered lessons that encourage participation.
  • Reliable Setup: A high-speed internet connection and access to teaching tools like books or a digital whiteboard.
  • Availability: Able to teach weekday evenings to accommodate students’ schedules.
  • Seattle-Based: While teaching is online, we prefer instructors familiar with the Seattle community.

Compensation & Growth Opportunities

  • Starting pay: $80 per hour for your first course.
  • Increase to up to $100 per hour with continued teaching.
  • Opportunities to teach higher levels and develop long-term student connections.

Our Students
